this was in my inbox first thing this morning (ps - Liz got this bird as a 16th birthday gift, it's been her pet for 11 years):

this morning, as usual, i got augustus's food and water. when i went to feed him and took off the cover, i saw something white at the bottom of the cage. i thought he had somehow retrieved a ping-pong ball and brought it back to his cage. on closer inspection, i realized the the ping-pong ball was actual an egg. augustus laid an egg! what is going on! i was freaking out and dad kept laughing at me. after eleven years of thinking he's a boy, he decides to lay an egg. true to his personality though, he wasn't tending to the egg or upset when i took it out of the cage--what a naughty bird. i'm still in shock.
